Tournament summary:
The December 20TH tournament was played on a

There were fine scores as usual.
A flight: Low Gross - Bob
Acosta carded a 76, Low Net went to Terry Conant who shot a 78 net 67, followed by Steve Clements
& Walter Johnson with net 69s.
B flight: Low Gross –
Sam Williams came in with a 79, WOW! B Flight Low Net was tied by
James Brown & Victor Shima with net 66s.

Andrew J. ‘Skeeter’ Greene (1927 - 2011)
Our
club lost a fine man, well liked by all, on December 25, 2011. He was the Head
Professional for The Links at Victoria. Many of you know or have seen Andrew
playing with the Senior Men's Club and around the facility teaching youngsters the game of golf.
Look
for a new tree to be planted near the driving range in the next few weeks in honor of Mr. Greene
DECEMBER 2011
MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD: HAPPY
HOLIDAYS !
Many Thanks to all who participated in the 2011 tournaments.
Remember: Tournament play is from the white tees now!
The
November (Turkey Shoot) tournament was held as scheduled on the 22nd. A really
nice day, BUT, it was a cold drive to get to the outward holes for the shotgun start!
Tough to get the ‘old’ bones limber enough to hit a ball!!
Suffice to say!! There were some excellent low gross scores posted by: T. Fruitt, D. Butler, T. Conant, V. Shima, & J. Romias and some good
low net scores P. Peete, J. Brown, B. Younger, and H. Davis respectively.
See the results on the following pages.
After the tournament a general meeting was held and an election for the 2012 Board of Directors
was held.
General Meeting Notes:
Billie Proctor president presiding.
Call to order – Pledge of Allegiance was conducted.
An Introduction by the president of current board members was conducted.
Floor discussions and comments:
Ralph Davis, presents a question(s) to the board and members: Does this club get involved with charities or out-reach programs and should the club
get involved?? Food for thought!
Dean Quick, Asks the following; why are the Tuesday tournament
groups the same as the regular Tuesdays? With that in place, very little interaction
occurs among members. Shouldn’t the board mix up the teams? Another thoughtful discussion item for the board!
George Ortiz moves to have the Board decide the groupings for the
tournaments.
Motion Seconded by Mr. Peterson and others.
Andrew Green reports that the Victoria Pro shop will only take
the full winners certificate dollars. No change will be given!
Lewis Ducreay proposes that the board penalize the “no-shows”
on Tournament days.
WELL, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS, SHOULD I COMMENT ON THAT?(!!)
Louis Wagner reports that the PLGA and SCGA merger was very successful
and there are many benefits offered by the SCGA. I’m sure you’ve
received the SCGA magazine. Also, see the web site for further information. http://www.scga.org/ Good Idea!
And, FINALLY, A LITTLE HUMOUR….
Roman Peebles says; “Why
don’t we have free turkeys every Tournament?” LMFAO!!
Come to think or it. (?)
That would improve the turnout!! ‘Turkeys for “Turkeys”!’ (Sic!)
Election results are as
follows:
Nate Brown, Incumbent reelected.
James Jackson, Incumbent reelected.
Dennis Peterson, Incumbent reelected.
Ray Lampkin, Incumbent reelected.
Tony Fruitt, Incumbent reelected.
Walter Johnson, New Board Member elected.
Chuck Holt conducted a swearing in of elected board members. Congratulations to all.
Also,
weekly tee times for 2011 were drawn.
Meeting
adjourned.
NOVEMBER 2011

MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD:
I understand that there’s still a bit of confusion about GROUND UNDER REPAIR:
OUR CLUB RULES SAY WE CAN DROP THE BALL FROM BARE LIES IN THE FAIRWAY. BASICALLY THE BARE LIES, EVEN
THOUGH THEY’RE UNMARKED, ARE CONSIDERED ‘GROUND UNDER REPAIR’.
ABNORMAL GROUND CONDITIONS:
An "abnormal ground condition" is any casual water, ground under repair or hole,
cast or runway on the course made by a burrowing animal, a reptile or a bird.
OUR CLUB RULES SAY WE CAN DROP THE BALL FROM DIRT MADE BY A BURROWING ANIMAL, REGARDLESS IF YOU ARE IN THE FAIRWAY OR NOT.

A board meeting
was held on August 23rd, the meeting notes are as followed:
AGENDA: FLIGHTS FOR TOURNAMENTS.
It was agreed that the
use of flights will be instituted with the October 2011 Tournament.
- “A”
flight handicaps of 0 to 10
- “B”
flight handicaps of 11 to 14
- “C”
flight handicaps of 15 to 19
- “D”
flight handicaps of 20 and up.
ATTENDEES:
Billie Proctor, President presiding.
Eugene Hardy, Nate
Brown, Dennis Peterson, James Jackson, Luther Dudley, Benny Nickleberry
NOTES/DISCUSSIONS
Mr. Peterson reports that he has done a preliminary
outline (spreadsheet) of proposed flights and what players would fall into the flights.
Outlining Flights/handicaps of A (0- 11), B (11-17), & C (18 and above).
The report has 33 players in the ‘A’ flight, 45 in both the B and C flights. This report is subject to change based on the most current handicaps and to the flight handicap groups.
Mr. Jackson reports that he has run many tournaments
and he proposes deciding flights based on the number of players that signup.
Mr. Nickleberry and Mr. Jackson discussed that flights
would be subject to the number of players. The Board could align the players
by flight prior to the said tournament.
Also, a stipulation that ALL players play from the
white tees was discussed.
Essentially eliminating the “Super Senior”
bracket currently used.
Mr. Peterson proposes that flights be used for ‘Regular”
tournaments only, including the club championship.
All other tournaments would remain as is.
Mr. Brown, Tournament chair, would need additional
help with arranging the flights and players in order to facilitate the score sheets.
Also, the payouts would stay the same according
to the current system. Meeting adjourned.
Monthly News Items:
The August tournament was held on another one of
those So Cal days we love. The tournament produced a real rarity. SIX (6) TEAMS TIED FOR LOW GROSS WITH A 71. (Peebles/Peterson;
Greens/Thomas; Daron/Kirksey; Bryant/Davis; Nickleberry/Young; Jackson/Conant). Respectively.
Using each of the team's scorecards, comparing each hole by hole,
to decide the winners. The team of A. Greene/ J. Thomas birdied #13, and
the team of E. Bryant/R. Davis birdied #18. Those two teams were declared tied
for first low gross.
As usual There Were Some Fine Scores For Low Net. The Teams Of: H. Davis/Quick, Clements/Magill, And Daron/Kirksey. All Scored Nets Below 60!!
COOL!!
AUGUST 2011 NEWS
Message from your board:
NOTE: I’ve added a check
box on the tournament entry form indicating what tee you’d like to play from.
The board would like to know how many Super Senior players we have.
Also, we are in discussions about of establishing “flights” for our
tournaments. Stay tuned for more information!
Monthly News Items:
The July tournament was held on a nice warm day and the low gross
score was posted by the team of Nickleberry, Peebles, Burley, & Ducreay. Those
guys (with Ray Young) won this event last year!!
Do
we have to break that team up??!!
Just Kidding!
The low net team winners are ALBERTSON, SIMMONS, JACKSON, and CONANT.
Their score was really really low! A net 119!! Cri`key!
(Australian exclamation equivalent to "WOW!")
Good on you, guys!!!
(Australian for ‘Well done!’)

THE LINKS AT VICTORIA NEWS:
August is maintenance month! We are working on our
much anticipated irrigation project. As of July 25, we have started moving sprinkler heads and improving water coverage
to increase growth. We suggest you do some maintenance yourself. Grab lunch and a large bucket of range balls
for as little as $13.
Victoria is also extending our golfing specials through the month of August. Ask the folks in the Pro shop for more details.
JULY 2011 NEWS
From the President:
Dear Members, thanks to
the Vice President, Eugene Hardy, in the future the results will be calculated differently than they were for the May 10,
2011 2-man scramble tournament. For the miscalculation I am submitting a mea
culpa for your consideration. In the future all 2-man scrambles, partners best
ball, etc. will be calculated with the payout double the amount indicated in the guidelines.
When we joined this club
we swore to abide by the rules of golf as prescribed by USGA and Victoria Senior Men's Golf Club and other local rules. It is incumbent upon each of us to know and follow the rules of golf as prescribed
by the governing bodies. Golf is a Gentleman's game. In order to uphold the integrity of the game, we as players must know and adhere to the rules. If we miss an infraction our playing partners are obligated to call a penalty on the offending player.
In the Club Championship
played June 21 and 28, 2011 we only had 2 players entered as Super Seniors. We
are very disappointed at the turnout. In the future if participation is not better,
we will not crown a Super Senior Champion.
Monthly News Items:
THE 2011 VSMGC CHAMPIONSHIPS
Congratulations
to the champion golfers of the year:
Seniors – Bob Acosta. Super seniors – Frank Louie.
The Club championship was
held on schedule on a 2 gorgeous days for golf. The greens were real good,
except for some holes where the cups were cut poorly. Regardless, that made for
some good scores.
Regulars
Bob Acosta and Tony Fruitt played in the same group with Bob starting with a 5 shot lead.
Tony made a comeback and nearly pulled off the upset. Also, finishing
third, Lewis Ducreay fired a 71 to come close to overtaking Bob. There were some really good scores, too. Namely, Ralph Davis, Saul Ramey, and Paul Peete, with Ralph and Saul tying for low net.
JUNE 2011 NEWS
Monthly News Items:
A
successful May tournament (Two-Man Scramble) was held on schedule on a fine day for golf.
Weather
was good, although it got a bit windy for the later groups. There were some really
good scores, too. Regulars Tony Fruitt and Gene Hardy were the low gross winners
with a 63. 63! Tony’s putting
was superb. He made putts from everywhere.
Following
up on the good low gross scores were the teams of Butler/Acosta & Nickleberry/Young with 64’s respectively. The
low net winners were Don Wesling & Dexter Moon with a 55 net. That’s
right 55! Really! Did they
play all 18! The teams of DAVIS/QUICK, ORTIZ/STEVENS, RAMEY/FUJII and SMITH/BROWN
posted the following good net scores. Those team’s all broke 60!!
Don’t forget the super senior
team of SHIMA/YAHATA carding a gross of 69 and another amazing low net score by the team of DALIGNEY/ANCICH with a 54! Wow!!
See the next page for full
results.
Next month’s tournament is the Club Championship held over 2 Tuesdays, the June 21st & 28th. It is a Regular – Low Gross & Low Net tournament. The entry fee will be $84 for the two days. Deadline
to enter is June 14th.
I hope that the greens, which have been aerated (punched) and top dressed during the week of May 16th
, will be good by June 21st!!
Also,
during the tournament play. NO PUTTING PRACTICE AFTER YOU’VE HOLED
OUT!
May 10th General meeting notes:
Billie Proctor, President presiding.
NOTES/DISCUSSIONS
Benny Nickleberry has proposed a method of improving the golf course.
During regular Tuesday play each group should rake the sand traps and fix as many
ball marks as possible.
For example:
Group one would take care of Hole # 1..
Group two would take care of Hole # 2..
Group three would take care of Hole # 3..AND, So on thru out the round.
It goes without saying to fix your own ball marks and rake sand traps.
A form was circulated to the groups so as to determine if the members have an
E-mail address, thereby cutting newsletter expenses.
Nate Brown reports that scores are not being posted correctly and he urges members
o please be mindful of posting the right scores.
Billie Proctor reports that we are negotiating with the county to get at least
two (2) ‘shotgun’ starts per year, instead of the one currently in force.
A drawing for new Tuesday tee times for July was held.

MAY 2011
MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD:
Bad news first… It’s
come to our attention that the rates at the course have gone up. Sooo
That means the tournament fee will be $42 instead of $40.
Also, Due to the fact that the greens are to be aerated (punched) and
top dressed on the 16th of May, we moved the May 17th tournament up to one week earlier, the 10th of May. Please sign up early!!!
There will be food and drink following the meeting.
Also, during the tournament play: RE. Lost balls. If a ball is lost the player is penalized stroke and distance (the player with the
lost ball must return as near as possible to the previous spot) and continue play from that location.
See the Rules corner.
Monthly News Items:
Now for some good news.. The April tournament (Red, White, n’ Blue) was held on schedule and it was fun for some… Mainly; Bob Acosta and Danny Butler, who battled and tied for senior’s low gross,
both shooting 2 under par 70’s. I guess Playing from the Gold tees is easy
for them. I (Peterson) for one had trouble with the gold tee holes, well, trouble
with all holes for that matter!! Low Net scores were great as well, with Don
Wesling, Tom Magill, & Billie Proctor taking top prizes. Super seniors were
lead by: Mits Yahata (Low Gross) & Fred Endo Min Ichiho, & Dean Quick.. Nice playing…

APRIL 2011 NEWS
MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD: It’s come to the board’s attention that
during the March tournament there were members ‘practicing’ putts after they had holed out. That habit must cease! Especially during our tournaments! Frankly, it is deemed illegal! This ‘practicing’
also slows down play. Please refrain from this habit! It will speed play along and make the round more enjoyable for all.
See the Rules corner on page 3.
Monthly News Items:
The rains came again, resulting
in a postponement of the March tournament to the 29th. Tuesday
the 29th turned out to be a fine day for golf. The greens? Most of’em were white as opposed to green!! The 16th
green was a prime example!! That’s due to the Poa Annua seed heads
that make putting difficult. This type of Poa (used in greens that are 5 –
10 years old) is truly a weed!! Maybe next time that crap will be mowed
away!!
The tournament still produced
some fine scores. The seniors club champ, Danny Butler, carded
a 71 and garnered the low gross prize. And, ‘Nick’ Nickleberry bettered
his age with a 73 for second place. Low Net scores were great as well, with Joe Thomas, Sherman
Shoupe, and Roman Peebles taking top prizes. Super seniors were lead by Fumio Kinoshita, Bill Waddell, and Min Ichiho.

MARCH 2011 NEWS
ARE WE LUCKY, OR WHAT!! We snuck in the
February tournament, on a cool day, just before the rains came again. It was
nice to play a dry course! I wish all the greens would have been mowed prior,
though.
The partner’s best ball tournament
produced some nice scores. The team of Nickleberry & Young garnered the low
gross prize. Wait a minute!! Didn’t they win last years Partner’s
best ball low gross! (?) You know what?
Anybody that has ‘Nick’ Nickleberry as their partner will always win!!
That’s a fact!
Also there were some excellent scores posted, by the teams of: Sasamoto/Kinoshita,
Louie/Yamamoto, Wesling/Moon, Shelton/Hawkins, Ramey/Fujii, Nichols/Peebles.
Due to ‘The Blind Draw’, Thomas & Peebles have two scores posted.
See the following page for complete scores.
Our 2010 club champ, Danny Butler, participated in the PLGA

MESSAGE FROM YOUR BOARD:
The board of directors has been informed by
The Links at Victoria management that on at least 2 occasions, some of our senior members have taken aggressive action towards
the management staff.
We informed management that if those actions
warranted law enforcement to be summoned then they should have done so.
The club policy of the senior men’s club
will be if a member’s conduct is such that it violates civil conduct, then that member can be subject to suspension
from the club for a period of time or if that conduct is egregious enough, then the person’s membership in the club
may be permanently revoked, after due process.
As you know, the USGA, under the rules of golf
has established a policy for the conduct of players during tournament play that allows the tournament committee to disqualify
(DQ) a player for un-sportsman like conduct. This rule will be enforced if necessary.
IF ANYONE HAS A PROBLEM WITH A MARSHALL BRING
IT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND THE BOARD WILL TALK TO THE GOLF COURSE MANAGEMENT AND GET RELIEF.

On a lighter note: Lordy!
Lordy! The rain went away and we had a beautiful day for the January tournament! The December tournament was canceled due to rain. SO: everyone
was anxious to get out and get some sun and golf in. As expected there were some excellent scores posted, by Bob ACOSTA, Danny

BOARD MEETING MINUTES:
A new 2011 tournament schedule was developed.
Billie Proctor was sworn in as our new club president. Congratulations!!
A discussion
regarding the tournament entries resulted in suggestions on how to handle the “late” arrivals (individual members
who did not get their entries in by the deadline).
In
order to speed things along and help Nate organize groups.
On the day of any tournament:
We should set a separate table for those “last
minute Larry’s” (Skinner you’re good!)
New board member Ray Lampkin volunteered to help
in that respect
Note, any member who has paid in advance and does
not show or call in advance of the tournament day, that member’s entry fee will be taken and put in the prize fund.
If the member calls in before the tournament, his
fee will carry over to the next tournament.
Gene Hardy reports that he has a list of 103 members
that have “re-upped”.
Benny Nickleberry also reports that there are 8
new members that have been submitted to the PLGA. That list and the existing
member roster will have to be collated for a comprehensive member roster.
NOTE: the
new member roster should be given to PETERSON so that newsletter distribution will be accurate. Meaning, no waste of postage and newsletter printing for non-members…
The following informational tasks were discussed:
Broadcast the $65 fee for re-newels and new member
fees in the monthly newsletter.
Accentuate the need for early tournament entries
in the monthly newsletter.
Meeting adjourned.

In Memoriam:
Club President
William V. Evans Jr
September 4, 1934 - November 13, 2010
Bill Evans of Torrance passed away on November 13th after a short but
courageous battle with cancer. Born in Sioux Falls, SD, Bill moved his family to California in 1949, settling in Redondo Beach.
He attended Redondo Union HS and graduated from Mt. Carmel HS in 1952. After a stint at El Camino College, he enlisted in
the US Army and served in Germany until 1958. In May 1959, Bill married Darlene McKenna, his wife of more than 51 years. Shortly
after earning a degree in business from Cal State LA, Bill began a career with the Internal Revenue Service that spanned more
than 30 years, during which time he dedicated countless hours to helping his co-workers by his involvement with the National
Treasury Employees Union, including serving as Chapter 15 President. Upon his retirement in 2002, Bill began pursuing his
passion for golf. Always one to lend a hand, he was involved in the South Bay Seniors Golf and Victoria Senior Men's Golf
Clubs, as well as volunteering at Rolling Hills Country Club. He also enjoyed woodworking, chess, crosswords, a good political
debate and watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune and his beloved LA Lakers. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; his son, Timothy,
daughter-in-law, Trisha, grandson, Nicolas, granddaughters, Antoinette and Colleen of Lakewood, CA; daughter, Kimberly of
Torrance; son, Daniel, daughter-in-law, Carol, and granddaughters, Lauren and Danielle of Bend, OR; his brothers, Jack (Margaret)
and Dick (Sharon), sisters, Mary Costello (Joseph) and Barbara Sawoya (Sam), as well as numerous loving in-laws, nieces and
nephews.
On behalf of the senior men’s club, a wreath of flowers was sent to Bill’s funeral.

regardless of the upcoming merger, if you are a member of the SCGA and the PLGA, you’ll still have to pay SCGA
dues. Billie says: the club financial statement is in progress.

STARTING TIMES.
As you all know, the management at Victoria has reserved Tuesday mornings between 7:30 and 10:00 AM for our members.
Lately, for whatever reason, there has been a great number of individuals who do not show up for their reserved times, which
results in lost revenues for the course. In the future, if you do not report in 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tee time,
your spot will be filled from the waiting list. Starting this month, if you fail to report for your scheduled time for 2 consecutive
times without notifying either your team captain or the starter your name will be withdrawn from the reservation list.
Thanks, Bill

Regular – Low Gross & Low Net
The drawing for tee times starting
in July was held at the meeting on May 18th. There were two
groups who did not attend and they were placed in the 19th and 20th slots. The 1st and the 18th time slots were not drawn and therefore everyone else was moved
up accordingly. You may switch your tee time with another team if both captains
are willing, but you must let me know prior to July 6th, when the new times go into effect. Bill.

DECEMBER 2009
I would like to take this opportunity to wish each member a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year. We currently have 105 members, counting those who renewed their membership and some new sign-ups.
I would also like to thank Louis Wagner for his past work as our secretary
and newsletter editor and welcome Dennis Peterson, who has volunteered to take on these duties.
Speaking of the newsletter,
we would like to publish this on line. This would not only make the task easier, it would reduce the cost of printing and
postage. We need to know which of you would find this acceptable. We know that some are not computer literate or do not have
access to a computer, so we will continue to mail a hard copy to those who request it. If you would like to have your newsletter
sent on-line, please enter your e-mail address on the form on the reverse side and drop it in the mailbox or enclose it with
your entry for the next tournament.
In order to reduce our current surplus, the entry fee for the Christmas
Tournament will be $20. This tournament will be held on December 22nd. And the entry fee must be paid on or before
December 15th. All late entries will be at the normal $40 rate.
JANUARY 2010
OOPS! I made a mistake in tabulating the results of the Turkey
shoot. I had placed Cliff Yamamoto in the Super Senior flight, when in fact; he played in the Regular flight. I also confused
his gross score with that of Mits Yahata. Cliff, in fact shot an 82 and Mits shot an 85.
With his handicap of 18, Cliff's net score was 64 and therefore he had the lowest net score for the Regular flight.
FEBRUARY 2010
We were able to get the January tournament in on the 26th. Turnout was low due to many attending George Fielder’s funeral.
Weather wasn’t real special either. Wet course, played the ball
up, Ugh! Still, Bob Accosta shot a 72!!
Did he play all 18??
